Aldermere

Terms

The deal between you and us, in plain English.

Version 3 · 30 September 2026

The short version

1. Who we are

Aldermere Online is made and run by Benedict Littlefair, an independent developer based in the United Kingdom. In these terms, “we” and “us” means them, and “you” means you, the player. You can reach us on Discord or at privacy@aldermere.online.

2. Agreeing to these terms

By creating an account or playing, you agree to these Terms, the Rules and the Privacy policy. If you don't agree, please don't play.

3. Age

You must be 13 or older to play. If you're under 18, read these terms with a parent or guardian. If we find out an account belongs to someone under 13, we'll close it and delete its data.

4. It's an alpha

The game is still being built, so some things will break. Features will change, get rebalanced or disappear. Servers will sometimes go down.

We work hard never to lose anyone's progress. Even so, during alpha we may have to roll back or reset characters, for example to undo a bug that duplicated items. If we ever have to, we'll give you as much warning as we can.

5. Your account

6. What you can and can't do with the game

We give you a personal, free, non-exclusive permission to download the game and play it on your own devices. This is the game's licence (sometimes called an EULA). The game itself stays ours, and some of its art, models and music are licensed to us by other creators.

You may not:

7. Streams, videos and fan art

Go for it. You can stream the game, upload videos and screenshots, and earn money from them on YouTube, Twitch and similar platforms. Fan art, guides and wikis are welcome too. Just don't present your work as official, and don't use it to sell gold, items or accounts.

8. Gold, items and characters

Everything you earn in the game exists only inside it. It isn't your property, it has no real-world value, and it can't be exchanged for money. To keep the game fair and working, we may change, rebalance or remove items. We can also remove anything that was gained by breaking the Rules or through a bug.

9. What you say and create

You're responsible for your chat messages, character names and clan names. You let us store and display them so the game works: other players see your public chat, clan names appear in the game, and so on. We can remove anything that breaks the Rules.

10. Breaking the rules

If you break these terms or the Rules, we can warn you, mute you, suspend or ban your account, remove items or progress, or rename your character. We'll be fair about it, and you can appeal on Discord.

11. Money

The game is free. If we ever sell anything, we'll update these terms first, and you'll never be charged without choosing to buy something.

12. Our responsibility to you

We're a small team making a free game, so we provide it “as it is”. We can't promise it will always be available or bug-free. We aren't responsible for lost progress, lost items, or losses caused by things we couldn't reasonably control.

Nothing in these terms limits responsibility that the law doesn't let us limit, such as for death or injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. Your rights under consumer law are unaffected.

13. If the game closes

We may one day have to shut Aldermere down. If we do, we'll give at least 30 days' notice on the website and Discord wherever we can.

14. Changes to these terms

We'll update these terms as the game grows, and the version number at the top will change. For anything important we'll tell you on Discord and in the game, and ask you to agree again the next time you log in.

15. Which law applies

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland, Northern Ireland or elsewhere in the UK or EU, you can also bring a claim in your local courts, and you keep any protections your local law gives you.
